Yahoo Mail free POP access
For a long time, Yahoo allowed POP access only for Premium accounts, so people used custom applications, like Y!Pops to have this feature. This is not longer the case. To enable the POP3 access for your free yahoo mail account, all you have to change is the preferred content, setting it to Asia.
Select Options->Mail Options, then Account, followed by “Add or edit an account”.

Image 1: Don't be afraid to click the "Add or edit an account" link. It will take you to the old Yahoo Mail interface, but this change is only temporary.
Select, the Accounts link on the left of the windows that opens. From the window that opens, select “Account Information” on the left. Then, set: Preferred Content: Yahoo Asia ( or Philippines region and timezone Korea), by clicking on the Edit link, like in this screenshot:

Click on Edit, then set the Preferred Content to Yahoo Asia
Update: After the latest Yahoo Main interface update, you might want to do this by accessing the “Set language, site and time zone ” instead of “Preferred content”. You can try the following link to do that: http://edit.yahoo.com/config/set_intl?.c…&.scrumb=dcWFucvsDjQ
Logout and login.
Then, you can enable POP access and change settings, by clicking, from the mail inbox:
Options -> Mail Options -> POP & Forwarding

The Yahoo Mail POP Options settings screen
Update: A commenter suggested that, if you cannot find the POP & Forwarding option you should try this direct link: http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopFwd?.done=http://in.f951.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Options&rand=1255761663 . If it does not work, then replace the part after the “done=” with the server address from the url you see when you go to the Options screen from your own Yahoo Mail account.
Now you can read your mail from any POP client; I use Gmail Fetcher to read mail in Gmail and it has all the settings I need already in it.

Thanks so much, I’ve been trying to get yahoo on my thunderbird forever and I have Liunx so it wasn’t easy. This way was great and save me a big headache.
Hi can you make me your friend
Does it work for anybody ’cause after I change the content to Yahoo Asia, I no longer can’t find POP & Forwarding in the Options -> Mail Options, so I cannot enable the Pop access.
Thank you
It did work for every account (free @yahoo.com accounts) I tried and got no complaints from readers until now…
…It works perfect now….I don’t know why it didn’t work first time…maybe I didn’t do it the right way….thanx a lot…
Dragos- have you tried Outlook ’03? not sure waht pop in and out should be
LHM
Hi,
Changing Settings to Yahoo Asia worked for me. I think. Gmail is still importing everything from my Yahoo account. Thanks a lot for the tip. Now I can have all my mails in one place. Now to figure out how to make Thunderbird answer emails from my separate accounts AS SEPARATE identities. Right now, it’s just using the default ID i’ve fed in.
Thank you for your time

sal, dragos. cred c-ai facut o treaba f. buna. totusi, din pacate, la mine nu functioneaza, imi apare msj:
We Apologize
The service you are requesting is not currently for sale.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Am incercat ore intregi de mai multe ori si cu trick-ul sugerat. Am incercat si pe UK sau NZ. Pana acum nu m-am prins. Am vazut ca nu sunt singurul. Poate mai ai si alte idei… Ar fi binevenite.
Mersi
It looks like Yahoo has stopped free POP access across all Yahoo servers, foreign and domestic.
yPOPs also no longer works. Firefox 3.0.6.
thanks a lot.it worked for me.
It’s really really really perfect, Tanx
The link redirects me to Yahoo! Premium Services and it says that:
“We Apologize
The service you are requesting is not currently for sale.
We apologize for the inconvenience.”
I managed to do this last year and luckily my yahoo account still works on my iphone with POP but my new laptop cannot set it up. I just don’t have the option to change my content preference. It’s gone!
cris – i’m having the same problem as u did…can u specify what the “right way” is..
why asia I wonder?
It dosen’t work
it is woring fine thanx a lot
So far I don’t see a:
“Then, set: Preferred Content: Yahoo Asia,”
in my newly created “ymail” account. I noticed the recent comments were from today…does anyone else have a ymail account with the same issue/or successful attempt?
I did not test this, but I find it improbable that ymail users cannot change their preferred content (because preferred content gives the news that are shown to them), so, it may not appear where the screen shot says, but it certainly should be somewhere, you just have to find it.
THANK YOU!! Works like a charm (i hv a yahoo.com account)
tnx!! works very nice:)
Uhm, I too got lost in “Options -> Mail Options -> POP & Forwarding”.
I can’t find it before or after changing to Asia.
I added an additional screenshot, hope it helps.
i cannot find pop&forwarding in mail options
how to get that
You have to set Preferred Content to Yahoo Asia first, and then it will appear. If you have already done that, try to log out and then log in again, maybe that helps.
You are the man! Was using ypops in windows before I switched to linux so I could download and sort my emails, but it would only grab new emails and intermittently grab old emails that I set as unread so I was never able to get all of my emails. This works perfectly even though the names of some of the links have changed a bit. Thanks a lot.
I tried to log out and log back in and nothing. Now I dont even get the part of the url “done=” can you please help?
What an excellent blog….
thank you Dragos for making this blog. it works well on mine…. no matter what other people said as they dont want to try to understand what you mention on the top step by step and word by word. For me, its incredible clear instruction and really save my times after i try to find it everywhere and no ones can help me except your blog!!!! Do you have other blog which will help me in the future?
Dragos ,
Did they terminate the service for pop and forwarding. bcoz m tryin using yahoo Asia on another email and its not workin
Still not working…. I’ve tried everything in this article. I’ve tried switching to Asia. I’ve tried using ‘http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopFwd?.done=http://in.f951.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Options&rand=1255761663′
I’ve tried replacing everything after ‘done=” with the URL from my own Options page.
…none of it works. no matter what, the POP3 & Forwarding link is not there.
I know others are experiencing the same issue so I’m assuming Yahoo has caught on and therefore this advice is now moot, because it’s no longer working.
Thanks for your answer.
The trouble was temporary. Solved after a couple of hours.
Sorry, i should have been more patient.
Thank you so much .
Goodbye Freepops and Yahoopops.
One problem , though.
Worked perfectly on three old accounts.
On a new one from today , the option of POP3
was lost after changing to Yahoo-Asia.
Please , Help.
Thanks for the immediate answer.
I tried your advice with no success.
Mayby newly created accounts are going to lose
this option?
I do not know … I will try and investigate, but cannot promise anything yet.
Thank you .
I created a new Ymail account today, set Preferred Content to Yahoo Asia, and went into Mail Options (after logging out, logging back in, and trying the same with a different browser).. there is no POP3 and Forwarding link for me
just Accounts, then Vacation Response. So it’s probably disabled for new accounts
Hello,
After I click the link “Add or edit your account” I do not see any “Preferred Content” option to be set to Asia.
I am using the link http://mail.yahoo.com and my Yahoo mail id is mish_yog@yahoo.com
Am I doing any mistake?
Please help.
Regards
Yogesh Mishra
You have to click on “Account Information” and then you will see it. Good luck!
Thank you so much for this! I was not about to pay $20 to get the POP information. It all worked perfectly and your guide is fabulous. Thanks again!
THANKS A LOT, TRIED FOR LONG TIME just saw ur post today & now its working.
Need to ask that only the inbox messages are imported, but my folders that I created in mail account are not detected. How to fetch my personal folders & messages.(I am using Thunderbird latest by today).
Just move the mail from your personal folders to the yahoo mail inbox, using the yahoo mail web interface. There is (not to my knowledge anyhow) not an alternative means to do this. Also, future mail that arrive in a personal folder will not be downloaded using POP, so you might want to disable your filters.
I am still having issues locating any “POP3″ options after successfully switching to Yahoo Asia. I would like to know if anyone has completed this successfully with a “new Ymail” account. Thanks in advance.
I stumbled across this after failing to get ypops to work with outlook – thanks, it works like a charm!
Out of 11 accounts, changing the “content” worked on 10 of them, but did not work on one. That one will not offer POP/Forwarding, only an upgrade to Mail Plus.
It seems that some “content” other than Yahoo Asia will also work to do this; two accounts worked because they had “content” set to Yahoo UK.
Thanks for the tip. It is very useful.
Unfortunately this procedure doesn’t work with my existing Yahoo account.
Hi Dragos,
I tried all the procedures described by you. But with no success. The procedures followed by me are :
1. Changed the ‘Preferred Content’ to ‘Yahoo! Asia’ (Tried ‘Yahoo! UK’ also) and settings saved.
2. Then logged out and logged-in again. Went to ‘Mail Options’
But there is no ‘Pop & Forwarding’ option found for my account.
I have a doubt, is there anything to do with the Timezone settings while updating the Preferred Content ?
Thanks and Regards,
Sunil
Set this up on Sylpheed as my client, without any problems. thank you for your clear instructions and screen grabs. =]
thanks so much
Can u tell me how I can get this to work with Entorage/Mac. I’ve done this and it’s just not working. I get this error message: The server for account “yahoo” returned the error “authorization failed”. Then it tells me to check my username/password and security settings. I never even touched the security settings. I just followed the exact directions. Ugh
Did you enter the username and password for your yahoo account somewhere in your email application? I think this is what it wants to say…
PS: I am not a Mac expert so I can offer limited help with this…
Thanks Dragos u solve my 5year problem thanks again
Its no more available on Yahoo Asia. It was running successfully till last month. My friend suggested me your blog saying that he was able to do it, he got his new ID last month. Basically I love Address guard facility of Yahoo and I get that facility in Yahoo! India. Now after getting those I want to forward it to my Google account(I love Google labels also).
Please help me out with any other Yahoo service which is providing this for now.
Thanx!!!! I haven’t got any sleep since i tried to consolidate all my yahoo accounts with gmail!!! and now it works!!! thanx!!! genius!!!
bravo domne` felicitari!
Hi Dear,

salut dragos, ajuta-ma si pe mine am facut ce ai zis u mai sus cu pop3 insa am o problema: nu pot trimite mailuri cu outlook express. de primit le primesc insa nu le pot trimite!ma poti ajuta?
Incearca asta: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091118155552AA9Z5k9 .
Succes!
Dragos, nu pot sa trimit mesaje de pe outlook expres, (iar pe outlook nici nu primesc nici nu trimit)
pe outlook express imi da eroarea asta: The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender’s e-mail address. The sender’s e-mail address was ‘sorin_suruceanu@yahoo.com’. Subject ‘test’, Account: ‘pop.mail.yahoo.com’, Server: ‘smtp.mail.yahoo.com.au’, Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: ’530 authentication required – for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html‘, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
am pus outgoing server si cu si fara “.au” in coada, am pus portul 25 si 465, degeaba. ce sa-i mai fac?
Awesome, worked like a charm !!!
i have 2 yahoo account and one gmail account, i would like to link those 2 yahoo account to gmail, but only one of the yahoo account can access. the another one…with same steps, but couldnt see the “POP & Forwarding” after the step “mail options”….what’s wrong with this? anybody help? …thanks
YES!!! You are awesome. This worked like a charm!
Thanks you so much. Good work!
I tried this account. it changed nicely to Yahoo! Asia.
But using Thunderbird, I get the msg that POP is not allowed.
With anothe YAhoo account all is well
Thank you very much. Very useful information. Good work!
I’ve tried it in MS Outlook 2003. It only work if “use SSL” is unchecked (use port 110 and port 25).
My previous post was not so clear. Sorry, I try again.
By using the ASIA trick, I was succesful accessing Yahoo POP with one Yahoo email account. I did it about a monthe ago.
A week ago, I tried the trick on another yahoo account, and today, yet on another. No success whatsoever. Cannot enable the POP as it does not appear in my “Asian” options.
Maybe yahoo has some renovations and that is the cause, I dont know. I will wait a little
i have the same scenario. I was able to add only 1 account. any suggestion?
I revise my previouse comment. In my laptop, it also work with SSL setting (port 995 and port 465). But I cannot use SSL setting in my office PC. I guess the SSL ports are blocked.
I personaly prefer IMAP, do you have tips & trick to use IMAP on Yahoo?
Thank you.
Thanksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss my friend God bless you
Super. It works…!
Thank you so much!!!! Finally! After trying all different sorts of plugins addons and third partie products this works beautiful.
Its Working Perfectly .. thanks friend …
Hi, thanks! It works. But it did not work for my other yahoo mail. I don’t know why. But, I had POP&Forwarding on my mail options before I changed my yahoo mail to Asia. After that, I went back, and it disappeared. Can you help me?
thanks
Felicitari!
Merge..si inca foarte bine!
Kudos. Now we can once more expectedly control what stays on the server, view our stored emails anytime we want, and especially do it all without:
1.) Waiting until the yahoo ads load.
2.) Having to look at annoying ads that invariably get clicked on.
3.) Having to pay Y’ to use our POP3 applications.
4.) Burdening Y’s server with for those of us that don’t want our business kept on a server.
5.) Burdening Y’s server by assuming responsibility for our email security*.
The latter is the excuse Y’ reportedly tells our IP’s as to why our yahoo mail quit working w/Outlook, OE6, etc., when in reality Y’ simply decided to try and bilk users out of money for nothing, ie; by unannouncedly changing our account’s password only to the extent that our YPops quits working and then we’re supposed to buy into Y’s semi-hijacking of our emails in order to extort money from us. Just my opinion.
So …
Thank You Very MuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuCH.
Thank you much, this workaround worked perfectely!!!
Just wondering what was special about Yahoo Asia vs. the other settings, Would you know?
I was able to get the information and everything, but when I tried using it with Outlook, it still said that pop was not allowed for me
Woops! I feel stupid now. Never mind about my last comment. I had just forgot to click “save” after I clicked “web & POP access.” Now it works wonderfully. Thank you so much for this information! You were lots of help!
THHHHHHaaaaaaaNNNNNkkkkkSSSSSSS….. a lot.
Hello,
I tried this and it worked like magic. This is good. Thanks
Did anyone of you who switch (my worked) starting to get inline ads in the email? this just started recently (this weekend) with ads for ymail and rocketmail. It never happened for me and i have been using the free yahoo mail, oh, since early 1990.
I ‘switched’ about a month ago thanks to the directions on this site! my other free yahoo account (reside in US) has no inline message ads.
Am i giving up my pop access for inline ads?
thanks.
thanks Dragos! stumbled on your blog, and this works beautifully to enable access to y!mail on my nokia handset…finally
Thanks. It worked with Outlook 2007.
Dear Dragos,
YOU ARE GENIUS………YOU ARE THE BEST. YES POP FORWARDING DOES WORKING IF YOU CHANGE TO YAHOO-ASIA….no matter what others say. IT DOES WORK RIGHT AWAY. Make sure they select time zone accordingly as well.
Thanks Genius
Sanjay
thank you body.. you are the best..more than 2 years i was searching for a solution.. NOW IF FOUND IT!! THX THX THX..works perfect
This is the best tip — you have to tweak a bit to adjust for updates Yahoo has made in the account settings screens, but anyone determined can get it. THANK YOU!
Monitor_R
Great Stuff!!
Stills works (finally). Initially I forgot to tick “Use SSL” and change to port 995 on the Gmail side, but after I did that – perfect! Thanks for the tip.
Many thanks…
Works great!!
Thank You Very MuCH
anil
i cant even stop to thank you for the greatttttt help this tutorial have been to me.. was looking a way to transfer my yahoo mails to gmail for past 2-3 years. thx a ton..
ms frumos a mers … trebuie doar sa urmezi atent pasii de mai sus/jos
Yahoo! has blocked the server from allowing Google to fetch mail with an error message that says “Server Access Denied, Need Yahoo! MailPlus. Contact Yahoo! Mail for assistance.”
So far, found the required settings on the account info tab of the classic client:
Account Settings
Set up Yahoo! Mail
Manage your Yahoo! aliases
You have no aliases at this time
Set language, site, and time zone
Current setting: Yahoo! Asia, Europe/Paris
Great! I am só happy that finally I can download emails from Yahoo, 600+ megs from the first account so far.
I could of course have taken a years premium subscribtion, but it feels as paying a ransom for my communications archive.
Thanks a lot!
Hi Dragos and all others, Thanx so much for all this insight
However, I now at the point I filled out my POP-details in Outlook etc. but my inbox remains empty (expected all my old stuff would transfer itself to my Outlook Inbox)
Odd thing is that if I sent a mail from my Outlook-yahoo account to myself (test) it appears in my online Yahoo but not in my Outlook-Yahoo account :-/ What did I do wrong? Hope someone can give me a hint; I’d be very greatful
Oops sorry, found it! Had to switch off my singn in with password-verification.
If u can not find POP&Forwarding after signing in open this url in a new window
http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopFwd?.done=http://in.f951.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Options&rand=1255761663
in my ymail account i was not able to find POP&Forwarding so i opened my old yahoo ID and went to POP&Forwarding and copied the url and signed in using the new ymail account and opened the copied url in new window and got POP&Forwarding.
Your link gets: We Apologize
The service you are requesting is not currently for sale.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
If it does not work, then replace the part after the “done=” with the server address from the url you see when you go to the Options screen from your own Yahoo Mail account.
Karthik…thanks for the great tips..
Dude, you are an absolute genius. Dragos, I appreciate your efforts and you are doing good work. The link above was the only thing that did the trick. THANK YOU!!!
@Karthik : Your link and helpful tips are wonder ! Your tips work perfectly for ymail, but not work for yahoo.com email.
Thanks OP and Karthik ! You made my day…
Of course, this is great, works and Dragos deserves kudos. But users could also send a signal to Yahoo by using some other *free* service – such as gmx.com. Besides allowing for POP access without any restrictions, gmx web-mail is https enabled not only during the authentication phase, but also when transferring the e-mails bodies, which Yahoo does not. A few more minor features recommend gmx ahead of Yahoo. Just my 2 cents…
@Dragos: Thanks! It did work for one account where I changed from Yahoo India to Yahoo Asia but not for the one for which I by default signed up with “yahoo asia” content. Can u help? Please mail me at
peajay.in@gmail.com
@Karthilk: Thanks for your tip. It did work for me. I have some more questions to ask you. Please mail me at peajay.in@gmail.com
Thnaks very nice trick…my problem has been solved
Thank you. I simply had lost the hope that I will never ever use pop with yahoo and then I saw your post. And now downloading mails into outlook.
Thanks again!
great… Thanks…
This worked perfectly!!! I’ve used Ypops AND webmail extension for Thunderbird. I could not get Ypops to work in Evolution when I switched over this week from TB. I also use Linux so settings/corrections are not always cut and dry.
This is ideal!!! Thank you for staying on top of your blog and keeping information current! AWESOME!!!
Great Tutorial. Thanks for your kindness.
Oh, you ARE a genius! Thank you soooooo much! I’m uing Windows Live Mail now
your instruction solved my problem, thank you very much!
Genius, thank you my brother!
Astounding! I screwed around with YPOPS for hours to no avail before I found this. 60 seconds later and I’ve got Yahoo mail on Outlook 2007. Worked great.
I set my “Preferred Content” to Yahoo Asia under my time/location settings and then clicked on the POP/Forwarding link. Did not have to log out.
Doesn’t Asia screen all of their servers emails? I hope this doesn’t allow for any of that on my foreign soil.
I think only China does that. Asia is a whole continent
Excellent!! Thanks for the post. It worked perfectly for me. I’m using Thunderbird3 on Linux.
Works Great! it sucks to use YPOPs as it doesn’t always work and crashes my computer often.
Thanks a bunch for the guide!
This is great! For years I didn’t know what to do with my yahoo account. Even after several years, I still have some old friends sending email only to my yahoo account. Now I have no trouble seeing these email any more.
THANK YOU THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!!!!!
I still get an error, even after replacing the address after the “done=”
Your link gets: We Apologize

Works perfect thank you so much
This works GREAT.
Thanks a million.
Thanks a lot
This works for me. Now it is lot more easy to maintain mails instead of reading from web-interface.
Wow! It works Finally! Thanks a lot
anyone ever figure out why some yahoo.com accounts won’t list the POP3/Forwarding options? I have 3 yahoo accounts and 2 of them worked fine by setting Yahoo Asia but the 3rd won’t. I tried the copy paste trick and get this.
We Apologize
The service you are requesting is not currently for sale.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Thanks.
i created another free account and have same issue as my one account. i wonder if they fixed something with newer accounts.
Same problem… too excited get POP access on my old yahoo account.
Create new one… but the service is not listed on Options anymore..
GREAT!!! I finally got my ymail redirect to my gmail….thousand thanks!
Super tare!!! de mult voiam sa imi verific mailul de pe yahoo pe gmail
.
For the settings to work you have to select the first option “Web & POP Access …”, and after selecting press the “Save” button left-donw the page. Good luck
You are great!!! Thank you SO MUCH! I’ve been searching for this for a while….
Hi Dragos,
I tried setting this up the way discribed in your posts. I also tried the work around and it didnt work. Any suggestions??

I’ve also got this problem. It used to work on the other computer, but not anymore =/
wooohoooooooo! Thanks a lot.
yes it worked for me thank you so much. no more annoying yahoo error messages.
im moving to gmail. welcome googlers
I tried this with a Yahoo! account several months ago, and it worked like a charm. I just tried it with another Yahoo! account, doing the exact-same thing (setting to Yahoo! Asia), and I get an error message, “pop not allowed for user”.
Although, I have to say that things look a bit different now in Yahoo!. Here’s what I did: Options > Mail Options >Accounts > Add or edit an account > Account information > (typing in of password) > Set language, site, and time zone > New Setting: Yahoo Asia. After that, it keeps asking for my password. When I sign out and sign back in again, the settings are “Yahoo Asia”, but POP doesn’t work.
I solved my own problem: After activating POP, I got the following error message: “The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: problem retrieving message.” Thunderbird showed me that it was trying to retrieve 128 messages, even though I had no message in my inbox. Thinking this was weird, I signed in through my browser and found out that there were 128 messages in the “Spam” folder. So, I deleted those, sent a new message to myself, and it worked. Apparently, it got confused by Yahoo!’s Spam folder.
Great. It works. Really!!
It doesn’t work on newer accounts. Yahoo must have gotten savvy to the loophole and closed it.
Thanks, man! It works great!…after ours of failure now it does it!…There could be a reason why some new accounts can’t access to the pop menu even with the Asia content on… old accounts (mine is 8 years old and I didn’t need any content change) were created with an old yahoo-user agreement before plu$ accounts appeared. Those rights cannot be reversed while new free-account users get a new ‘deal’. Anyhow, it did work to me. Thanks again
This is the direct link to find Preferred Content.
I was unable to get to it through Accounts for some reason
http://edit.yahoo.com/config/set_intl?.c…&.scrumb=dcWFucvsDjQ
Thanks to this article I finally managed to get this working. I was few desperate moments away from paying the $20 fee
ah, ok… was in time settings…

You are really very great, given a wonder full solution for all …! & i am sure now can got yahoo pop yet with out this solution before…!
Thank You ! Very much Mr.Dragos. U give us a very nice information , very much helpful . U r gr8 sir…..
Hello. Thank you for this helpful info, however, has anyone had any recent success with this? When I change my settings to Yahoo Asia, sign out, and then sign back in, Pop and Forwarding is not an option under Accounts. Any suggestions plz?
I tried it with Yahoo UK and the option of PoP is in mail options, but when you click on it, it only says “upgrade to mail plus”.
I also tried the suggestions of copying and pasting my url after the url u hav posted on there and it takes me to a screen that says “this premium service is not available”.
Would appreciate any help.
Thank you.
This worked like you said it would!! thx =)
thank you

Awesome! thank You! Do I have to leave it in yahoo Asia?
Hello to all the happy POP Accessors.
and a big thank you to Mr. Dragos
Actually the thing is that I created a new and I wanted to forward all the mails of to
I thought of accessing the Ymails by means of POP access and forwarding by changing the region to Asia like I did with my other Yahoo Ids.
But, to my surprise there was no link of POP access and forwarding even after changing the region.
I was so heart broken that finally your LINK saved my life
I researched with the link also and found out by selecting the mails to be FORWARDED to my Gmail rather than POP Accessing removes the link of ‘POP AND FORWARDING’ from Yahoo Options and your mails are never forwarded only POP access thing works perfectly.
So, the gist of my story guys is, if you are enabling the access by means of LINK then fetch your mails by the means of POP Access (only that works) not by FORWARDING.

brilliant! thank you!
Thanks a lot brother. I was trying to configure my yahoo mail to outlook express for a long time. I could do that with your instructions only. thank you very much.
All the best
as per 2010, even you change to yahoo asia, it cannot have pop&forwarding
this is what i got on yahoo asia:
POP & Forwarding
Upgrade to Mail Plus so you can:
* download your Yahoo! Mail in an email client, such as Outlook
* forward your Yahoo! Mail to a different address
Tanks.I love U
You are the greatest… been trying to solve this all day… I just needed to find you… 2 seconds and solved… thanks!!!!
You the man, Dragos. I have been looking for an answer to Yahoo’s wacky decision to charge for POP3 access when every other email service provides it free. You are the answer man. Thank-you! Mrk
Thank you so much! I tried this yesterday and it worked great. Took about 20 minutes before mail started showing up in gmail but it’s working fine now. I too lost the forwarding option after switching to Asia but I’ll search it out when I have more time excellent tip.
Hats off to you DRAGOS…..
you are amazing…!!!
AWESOME! The verbiage changed a bit so it’s under:
Options > Mail Options > Accounts > Add or Edit > Edit the account > Account Information > Set language, site, and time zone —- just change the preferred content, no need to change the time zone.
Thank you so much for this!
great tips…thanks
THANKS! Works great!
It’s people like you that make the internet a better place. Thanks man! May you be blessed with infinite bandwidth.

Thanks! Finally I can use my Mac Mail to read my Yahoo Mail!!! Upyyyy!!!!
Thank you thank you – you’ve just helped us get Thunderbird online! With so many email addresses and accounts in our family, logging in and out was a PAIN!
Thank you soooooooo ooooooooo oooo much for this info
Yahoo was my first email address EVER! I have this account for 11 years now and since have gone with google because of overspaming on yahoo and pop support in google, also google gave the 1Gig option before anyone. Now I have this account in my mail application at its rightful place and it will be checked just as frequently as all the others.
Lots of internet love to you!
Thanks
Thanks so much Dragos, just what i was looking for.
My Search Yahoo pop & SMTP service ended here.
Thank you very much for such useful infromation
Thank you so very much!
Multumesc tare mult!
Setarile in thunderbird sunt identice. Setarile pe web sunt identice. Si totusi unul vrea iar celalalt nu mai vrea.
Ciudat…
Pe langa multumiri as da si o bere, doua…
:))
Thanks for the tip man.
I was missing a lot of important mail as I hate checking mail on different accounts. This did the job for me.
No wonder Yahoo is what it is by having these stupid restrictions for users according to region. Yahoo needs to wake up or it will die.
wow wonderful post, i have ga around long enough to find this tricky thing…
thx a lot….
Foarte bun post ! Felicitari Dragos, functioneaza perfect. Iar pentru cei care vor totusi sa revina la vechiul Preferred Content pot sa o faca linistiti deoarece POP3 va ramane activat !!!
If you can’t get it working this way, simply follow the instructions at about.com.
http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpressfreemail/qt/Free_Yahoo_Mail_Outlook_Expres.htm
and for Macintosh
http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_free_yahoo.htm
if it doesn’t work for try changing the server address to pop.plus.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.plus.mail.yahoo.com.
Thanks – worked fine for me, although the page to select Yahoo! Asia is in a slightly different place:
Account Information -> Sign In -> Set language, site and time zone
Seconding Gordon comment. This worked for my @yahoo.com account which I’ve had for over a decade but haven’t been able to access via pop for years. Thanks!!!!!
Awesome boss !!!
thanks a lot.. its brilliant!
this is awesome – thanks so much!
very clear tutorial, that saved me a lot of hassle
- cheers

Hello
After having used your wonderful post for a long time , there is a sudden problem concerning incoming mail (Outlook express)
(A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: ‘Yahoo-xxx’, Server: ‘pop.mail.yahoo.com’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC19)
Sending mail is OK.
Thank you
Worked perfectly! Thanks. Sure beats all of the other software workarounds.
Thank you it worked perfectly.
man, thanks much
I’m so bummed, I cant get the line pop/forwarding.
I try all the explinations and still nothing.
no idea what to do .
Please I need help.
generic urls work:
http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopFwd
http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/opt_out/targeting/details.html
pofwd regenerates the current yahoo account server at the end along with the random crumb stuff.
confirm that yahoo mail uk offers the pop setting. don’t have it working yet in opera (“tls”), but works in oe (“ssl”). don’t know if tls is the problem.
Works for me. I had to log in and log out before it worked. Also, the screenshot you provided is not correct anymore. Now it is on that page, under “Account Settings”, the “Set language, site, and time zone” option that has to be set to Yahoo! Asia.
Thank you so much!! Worked great.

Very Good Tip!!! thanks…
thank you soooooooooooooo much.. it worked greatly… thanksssssssssssss
Very good tip, thank you vey much.
thanks. this makes life so much easier. have been trying to do this for years it seems!
This is great! I’ve downloaded all sorts of programs that crash and require so much config, to no avail. Finally! Thanks!
Nooo! Hours of surfing through web pages but still can’t get it to work. I am set to Yahoo Asia sucessfully. I do get the POP & Forwarding option. I make the changes and I save. Outlook Express 6 or Microsoft Outlook SP3 don’t download anything. In fact they do not even manage to log into yahoo! I cannot send, I cannot recieve.
I tried the forwarding option to my other non-Yahoo account and I do get a message from Yahoo with a confirmation code. Following the instruction and entering the confirmation code I still cannot recieve any mail from the Yahoo account.
Tried with and without SSL checked, changed port numbers to 995 and 465 or left the 25 & 110 defaults ports, tried with “my server requires autentication” checked and unchecked, different combinations and nothing!
ERROR MESSAGES:
Outlook Express

The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘Yahoo!’, Server: ‘pop.mail.yahoo.com’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What ELSE to do?!
Works excellently well. Thanks for a great hack.
i know what the problem when i create a new email pop and forwarding and disable or missing
but when i use my old email its has a pop setting and its work fine! i think the problem is it wont work on new email address!
It worked.excellent post. I had to change it to Asia in Yahoo. So many days of trying to get it working but with no luck. This really worked.
Thanks so much and your help is very much appreciated.
Cheers
Is there anyway I can copy my folders from a free yahoo account to an att yahoo account. I changed to asia for the free account and was able to forward my mail to the att one but now I need to get all my folders and info. Thanks for your help.
I was able to connect with Thunderbird and get the mail in my inbox, but I can’t seem to get the mail in my other folders. Those are the ones I really want. Any advice?
You could remove the folders from yahoo and create a filter in Thunderbird to sort everything.
Fucking AWESOME!!!
I’m just afraid Yahoo! will catch on eventually and cut off free POP & Forwarding abilities to Yahoo! Asia users because of people like us using this hack. How many mails might we all lose before we catch onto the fact that they’ve done that?
In the meantime though, order me a few extra egg rolls ’cause as far as Yahoo! is concerned, I’m e-mailing from somewhere in the vastness of Asia.
Tried this last night with an existing Yahoo account and IT WORKED. Tried it today with a new account that I just created and IT DIDN’T WORK.
CONCLUSION: If you create a new Yahoo account and try to switch it to Yahoo Asia to get POP and forwarding abilities, you’re out of luck. But if you have an existing Yahoo account then you are “grandfathered” in. I’m not sure how long you have to have owned it–in other words, I don’t know when the cutoff date was for their no-POP-policy but the account I used successfully has been around since 1996.
Anyway, for those having problems here are the easy steps:
1) Make sure you’re not trying to create a fresh Yahoo! account and attempt this hack, it won’t work (see above).
2) Sign In (you should be at your main mail page; if not, point your browser to mail.yahoo.com).
3) Click on OPTIONS in the upper right hand corner, then choose MAIL CLASSIC in the dropdown box.
4) You get a pop-up box to confirm that you want to switch to Yahoo Mail Classic. Click yes.
5) Again, click on OPTIONS in the upper right hand corner, then choose MAIL OPTIONS in the dropdown box.
6) You’ll be brought to a new screen. On the left hand side click on ACCOUNT INFORMATION.
7) Now you’re brought to a screen asking for your password. Enter it.
8) You’re now in your Account Info screen. Close to the bottom of the screen you will see “Account Settings” Underneath that you want to click on the option for “SET LANGUAGE, SITE AND TIME ZONE”
9) Once again you are brought to a new screen. Next to where it says “Regional Site and Language” is a dropdown box. Find and select “YAHOO! ASIA”. As long as you’re here you may also want to make sure that your time zone is correct.
10) Click Save
11) Go back to the main Yahoo mail screen (easiest way to do this is to point your browser to mail.yahoo.com)
12) Click on OPTIONS in the upper right hand corner, then choose MAIL OPTIONS in the dropdown box.
13) You’ll be brought to the same screen you were in step 6 but now on the left hand side you will see an option for “POP & FORWARDING”
That’s pretty much it. Go ahead and set up your POP.
Excellent!
Thanks, man!
Thanks!!!
Dude! It worked like a charm! Thank you very much!
Great job! Worked like a charm. Downloading messages now. Yahoo has been going south for about 4 years, but particularly in the last 2. I am so over it. The way it was in 97-2002 or so was perfect. THe only thing I can see they have done right is saving drafts automagically as you type them. Otherwise they have gotten so slow and bulky and they are trying to shove social networking down my throat. The calender and contacts lists are getting worse, not better. If I wanted gamil I would have been on gmail. I liked my yahoo email the way it was. There was no need to change it. I would have gladly paid for it. Instead, they are trying to compete with other free services.
I’m still trying to find a way to transfer messages from 1 ‘free’ yahoo acct to an ATT yahoo account. I got Asia thing working but now I still need my folders transferred. This service used to be offered for free by TrueSwitch but that doesn’t work anymore.
Thank you SOO much! You don’t understand how much I appreciate this!!
Wow, that’s a post I’ve been looking for in past few months, and finally I found it:)
Thanks man, very easy to make it and works perfect!
simply wonderful dragos amigo…it worked!!!!!!! thnx man ….a lot…
dragos when i retrieve mails in outlook express 6 it starts downloading all old mails too(more than 1000) which is a hectic job consuming a lot of time.can i avoid this and just download the new mails that would arrive in my mailbox?is there any option in outlook express? thnx in adv.
Good Job Big Al and every other people, it works.
it´s working for me now
Best regards
It works great. But my second question is, what if I change back to Yahoo US. Is anything stop working again?
Thanks
Ken

Hey! How I wish i could give ya a kiss… not a virtual one. WORKS LIKE CHARM.
Unfortunately I found no answer on the lack of pop and forwarding option from Yahoo Asia. In two of the accounts appear in the third missing
still works like a charm, many thanks!
Thnx mate, it went thru
at last, yahoo asia enabled this feature, thanks for this guide sir, it work for me…
Worked like a charm! Thanks, good sir!
i heart you for this! i have tried all steps.. Installed YPops- it didn’t work.. changed my country- this didn’t too:( until i found this! you’re a life saver!:)
Works!
Thanks a lot!
Tried it today. Works perfectly. I just so happen to be IN ASIA, so I bet there’s checking now that if you’re not in asia, no POP.
POP works, in Europe too.
You have to select yahoo Asia, though.
thanks, you’re saving me thousands of unnecessary clicks
That was not easy but finally it worked fine for me!!! You need to change the language and regional settings to China, that you see that a new option is appearing in account settings. I did all the changes intuitively and I could change my content preferences to Asia! Thanks to the author for the great tutorial!
Thank you. It also worked very well for me.
Thanks to you all! All your suggestions were all helpful!
The problem is with only new ID’s, I opened mine about a year ago and I have that problem of pop & forwarding disappearing after changing to yahoo asia. But my older (over 5years) account has been working with pop fine. Pls do let us know if anyone finally discover a solution to new account not working with pop and forwarding.
Hi,the option add or edit account doesn’t appear on my yahoo
does anyone know why?
Back in the day when Yahoo was still being miserly with their account sizes (even reducing the size of new accounts from 6 megs down to 4 megs) I found myself in constant need of more space. So I kept creating new Yahoo accounts. Finally Gmail came out and forced Yahoo and Hotmail to quit playing games (at least with account sizes).
So last year I finally took the time to transfer all my archived emails over from Yahoo to Outlook. But for some reason I got lazy and didn’t transfer the emails from the last account.
Today I converted this last account to Yahoo Asia and the POP / Forwarding options still didn’t show up. I tried all the other methods like cutting-and-pasting URLs from the older Yahoo Asia accounts that had the POP/Forwarding option. But still no luck. I tried changing to Yahoo UK/Ireland, and that didn’t work.
And then, as a last-ditch effort before resorting to YPOPS! I logged back out and switched back to Sendai, Japan (including the correct Japan time zone) and all of a sudden the POP / Forwarding worked! Totally weird, but I am extremely thankful it finally worked.
All I can say is that Yahoo’s settings options are such a tangled buggy piecemeal mess that if you mess around enough it should eventually work. All I can say is keep messing around and eventually you will make it. I did!!!
worked for me 2nite
Wow, this still works =) Thank you so much for the tips.
Thank you very much! I’ve been trying for hours and hours, using the webmail extension and the ypops, but this finally works!
(september 2010!)
Works like a charm getting mail into my mac mail but cannot send? Any thoughts?
In my yahoo mail there is pop and forwarding option on the left hand side, but on the right side it says
Upgrade to Mail Plus so you can:
download your Yahoo! Mail in an email client, such as Outlook
forward your Yahoo! Mail to a different address
Iam still not able to get this right , I used 3 to 4 yahoo mail ids , all have the same problem
Thx
@shuja
it worked for me like this:
1. get to Y! classic
2. go to Y! options
3. skip the “pop & forward”
4. go to the last (most down) option in there
5. find and replace the content and time zone (I set content to Yahoo Asia and time zone to my time zone).
6. it’s done; sign out, sign in, now you can go to Option and enable POP.
Thanks a lot dear,
I m very very thankful to u.
Thanks! It is finally working! I just have a question. I have been checking and I found out the there are almost 20 messages that appear, at least, three times each. Why is that? Is there a way to delete these duplicated messages automatically?
Thank you so much for the help. It works great now. I really appreciate the helpful advice!
Just confirming that this works great, with the new (as opposed to Classic) Mail interface.
If your logged into yahoo, and have followed the original instructions above, you can go to this page to see how to configure your mail client:
http://popfwd.mail.yahoo.com/pf/PopConfig
This page for some reason isn’t currently linked correctly from the new Mail interface. (The little purple question mark box didnt open anything useful for me).
@ James Wilson: Thank you so much for the link because now I can send and receive mails on windows live mail.
I have a @rocketmail.com address and it did not work for me at all..
I did everything you said to do and still nothing.. it is just me or is rocketmail a premium only yahoo pop
Horrayy, this information is very helpfull ..
Yahoo only provide how to set the setting in email client, and it’s seem they forgot to provide info how to display/enable the POP menu, or they place it in another help section …
Thank you
YOU LEGEND!!!!! I’ve been trying for the last 2 hours with no sucess, untill I finally found your answer…. Thanks!!
WOW!! this is very helpful. It works!!
Thanking
thank you very very very very much!!!!
Thanks a lots! finally i get it.
Multumesc si eu si traiasca romanii! Ce s-ar face lumea asta fara noi….
Thanks! it works for me. Awesome instruction.
Below is what I have been looking for all day
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: username@yahoo.com
Email address: username@yahoo.com
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
Salutare Dragos!
M-am tot chinuit de vreo cateva zile sa configurez o adresa de e-mail sa ruleze prin Outlook.
Dupa ce am urmat pasii mentionati de tine, imi rezulta urmatoarele:
General
Signature
Spam
Disposable Email Addresses
Filters
Accounts
Vacation Response
Contacts
Calendar
Notepad
Account Information
Deci nu am optiunea de pop & forewarding.
Am sters spam-urile, folderele extra, am golit toate mesajele.
Ok! O sa mai “sap”. Merci pentru raspuns. Toate bune si spor la treaba!
They’ve changed the name of the setting “Preferred Content” to “Set language, site, and time zone”. If you cannot find “Preferred Content”, look for “Set language, site, and time zone”. You should update the original article.
Someone else posted a direct link above, and that works too:
http://edit.yahoo.com/config/set_intl?.c…&.scrumb=dcWFucvsDjQ
Anyway, thank you so much!
When I went to “accounts” I could not find “Account Information”… When i looked for the word “account”, it said 13 matched but only 5 were visible. COuld it be that Yahoo is hiding the links to prevent us from doing this?? Why cant i just click account information? Its nowhere in my screen
If you have trouble finding the “preferred content” option , follow the link :
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090801225522AAAJ4kQ
The best to do is STOP USING YAHOO all together. Use Windows Live asnd other FREE Email services. If enough people do this it will force YAHOO to service the common people without charges. There are lotds of E-mail services that work and do not cost the individual anything.
hi.thank you for tihe information.i was able to set my account for pop but when i tried it for my other yahoo account, pop and forwarding link is not there any more?wonder why…i was able to do it with my other account but now the link is not there. thank you for your help.

Any solutions?
Cheers,

a mi me fue genial ya tengo yahoo en outlook 2007
I researched alot of information to finally find something so simple and yet actually works like a charm.
Thank you very much!
I do not have any idea where on what to click. In WHAT application? In Outlook? In Thunderbird? In Windows Live Mail?
Thanx for any help in advance.
works fine! tnx!
So funny. It still works. Cheers, Dragos!
Hi Man,
It’s Really Work , Great Tip you have Given Here
THANK YOU MAN
WISH YOU ALL THE BEST
Thanks a lot dude i got what i wanted. Its great and works great.
Works perfect!!! thanks
Hi!
Thanks for the infos…it works!….keep cool…
I beg to differ, this still works. I was able to enable Asia as my area of content, in 1 tab, in in the other was able to visit mail options and had pop contained within it. then proceeded to change content area back to US, with POP enabled, and it remained enabled. But then again I’ve had my yahoo account since 6th grade … and am now 25 so a great number of years, so I am still under the original TOS, as it said when switching to Asia content, that it simply had same terms, just a little more was added to it. So if you can recover of obtain a VERY old account you most likely will be able to do this.
worked like a charm for me on 2-27-11….
changed to Asia where timezone setting is under profile..
go back to mail and allow to be pop ed….
the outlook test …success..
When I change the location to asia from the original US location and go back to options to enable the pop settings…it’s no longer there. So I tried changing the location to Philippines and lo and behold…I was able to enable the pop settings! This is awesome!! To the other guys who’s having the same problem, try putting Philippines as the location. It worked for me!
I can confirm the “Philippine workaround” works for both POP3 access and forwarding.
I can also confirm that the Yahoo! Philippines workaround worked after the Yahoo! Asia attempt did not.
Yes, I also confirm that it works with Philippines
Thanks a lot…
awesome..I’ve been looking for this in years. Thanks a lot.
Nice post. Really helped. You worked the trick.
Thank u very much sir, Your guidence is excelent, it worked properly. I have been strugling with this problem since long period, I have tyred of trying every suggetion got in google search. Configuring Yahoo India account to Outlook Express is perfectly worked out.
with regards
Thanks so much !!!
I still don’t understand why Yahoo charges Americans for POP service…WTF
I wish I could just shut down this e-mail addy but I have a bunch of crap tied to it. DAMMIT!
Thx man….
precise instructions.
Worked perfectly, have been waiting for this since so long
I have had a free yahoo.com account for probably 10 years, and it was always a little annoying that you could not use POP.
But here is what’s interesting… I went looking for the content setting and could not find it. But I did find the POP settings and enabled it and now I have POP access to my free yahoo.com email account! I did NOT have to change the content to Asia!
I know about 2 or 3 years ago I wanted to set it up with Thunderbird, but you had to upgrade to Premium account to get POP access, but now it seems my free account includes free pop access!
Go figure!?!
Having a bit of trouble if I could please get some help.. I followed the instructions and was “able” to add a forwarding address to Gmail. I got the Gmail conformation and it says that it is “forwarded” to Gmail. Even though it shows that it is supposed to be, my mail still goes to Yahoo and is not physically doing it. I even tried doing it again and it said “Mail already forwarded to this address.” Is there something that I am missing, why it is saying that it is already forwarded to my gmail, yet not actually doing it?
Still works as of 05-02-2011.
A few changes:
To change to Yahoo! Asia, you have to do the following:
1. Options > Mail Options > ACCOUNT INFORMATION
2. Scroll down to “Account Settings”
3. Select “Set language, site, and time zone”
5. Under “Regional Site and Language” change it to “Yahoo! Asia”
Works perfectly.
Thank you for such a brilliant idea.
Yahoo has changed the structure. How I did it is as under:
1) I switched the mail to yahoo classic.
2) Click “options” then “mail options”.
3) Click “account information”, a new browser tab opens & asks for password confirmation.
4) Click “set language site and time zone” & choose YAHOO ASIA…………….
Now you’ve done…..
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work if your IP is in Hong Kong. This reinforces my contention that the workarounds are based on your IP.
As usual, bad luck with mine. Yahoo!Asia is set, either the link above and modifed from my options give the following:
We Apologize
The service you are requesting is not currently for sale.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Admin, sorry for posting this in the other topic instead.
worked for me today! Many thanks.
Thanks Buddy, I was trying to figure this out forever and it was giving me a headache! In one of my yahoo mail accounts I could POP email and yet in the other all I saw was the upgrade to yahoo plus.
It didn’t work for me with either Yahoo Asia or Yahoo Philippines:
“Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password.
POP access is limited to Yahoo! Mail Plus subscribers. Please contact Yahoo! Mail’s support team for more information.”
Ooops, I tried it again and this time it did work, never mind…
I got this to work using UK. I saw somewhere that it worked that way too. Thanks!
I have all figure it out. I have 2 yahoo mail, one is old and one is new, with my old yahoo mail i changed to yahoo Asia and enable pop3 and pop3 and forwarding was there, worked great. but with my new mail i changed it to Asia and there was no pop3 and forwarding option under mail option…..i tried a lot, but non worked, and then i changed it to uk, then logout and login again, walla there is pop3 and forwarding option!!!! then i enable pop3 and forwarding and then i changed back my UK to Aisa, and logout and login, and walla pop3 and forwarding is there and enabled!!!!!! and no other configuration needed for out look or windows live mail then the simple one, which is here for both outlook express and windows live mail, worked fine:
Create a new mail account at windows live mail or outlook express (Both same setting)
01@ General tab:
name: as your name (any name could be use)
Email address: as your full email address, example xxxx@yahoo.com or xxxxx@ymail.com
(ETC,xxxx@rocktmail.com)
02@ server tab:
my incoming server is “POP3″ server
incoming mail (POP3) : “pop.mail.yahoo.com” or “plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com” (both work for incoming mail)
outgoing mail (SMTP) : “smtp.mail.yahoo.com” (only worked after changed back to Asia, for UK and Nz go to, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091118155552AA9Z5k9)
@ email luser name: your username with or wothout xxxx@yahoo.com (use what work for you, mine work without the xxx@yahoo.com)
password: your password
and click remember my password if only you use this pc, if others user use this pc unchecked remember my password, but you will always have to enter your password when open or sending or receiving new mail, thats wast of some time…
now for windows live, log on using clear text authentication
@outgoing mail server enable “My server requires authentication ” and click setting ” use same setting as my incoming mail server” click OK
now
@ Advanced tab server port numbers
Outgoing mail (SMTP) 25 (for uk and ssl 465 or something but worked fine with asia @ 25)
Un check this server requiers a secure connection (SSL)
now @ incoming mail (POP3): 995 with SSL enable or 110 without SSL enable (Worked boath for incoming) i use SSL 995 cos it worked so SSL it is
@ server timeout 1 minute
@ sending break apart message ……… leave this as it orun check this
@ delivery
Click or enable “Leave a copy of a messages on server ”
now uc check Remover from server after………and deler from “deleted items”
Or your mail will be deleted to server after delet any mail @ live or outlook express mail.
Thats it and you can use yahoo F***ing mail free pop3…….

It doesn’t give me an option to change it to asia in my settings. Is this new?
The Philipines gave me the option and I have allowed it. I just can’t get the pop settings for Outlook 2002 to work to generate a test. Thanks for your time.
Dragos, sorry to have wasted your time. Even though outlook would not generate a test message, I inadvertanly saved the account settings and was able to send and recieve emails through outlook with my yahoo account. Thanks so much.
Hi there,
I am also trying to use pop3 on gmail to read yahoo mails in gmail.. i followed the steps show here to do it freely.. But i am not able to see the “Add or edit account” option at all!!
can anyone help me!!
Yahoo Germany offers free Pop forwarding, I just changed my location to Germany and it works fine.
It showed ‘Pop’ option even when my locale was set to ‘Yahoo India’.
I have set it to Yahoo US and it works for me. I have POP section in my Yahoo Mail Options, and I can access POP from pop.mail.yahoo.com:995 (SSL). Can’t remember what I did to my account in the past but it works great with Gmail. (I used to use the Plus server (plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com:995), but yesterday it stopped working, complaining that I need to be a Plus subscriber.)
This is fabulous. Works perfectly by changing to Yahoo! Asia. Thanks a ton…
Thanks it worked for me. I did as you said and changed it to Yahoo Asia.
Update:
You now have to click the “Hi, ” then “Account Info” then Yahoo Asia
I after Options and Mail Options i’l have only ACCOUNT anda can’t see “Account Settings” can you help me
My email is luiscarlosrato@yahoo.com
thank’s
Problem solved and it work’s.
Thank’s
Dragos
I can confirm that the Phillipines work-around still works (for now), I just successfully changed the POP settings in my account as described.
Thank you very much! it worked today too!
Thank you so much for this! Yahoo is ridiculous for trying to require a subscription for *not* using their stupid interface (and avoiding constant Yahoo–Comcast failures).
This still works as of 30-Oct-11, but I did it a little differently:
I had to do the Yahoo! Asia switch in Yahoo! Classic
1) To go back, disable JavaScript in Firefox–>Options–>Content. Go to mail.yahoo.com and say return to Yahoo! Classic (you can reenable JavaScript now)
2) Drop down menu by username –> Account Information
3) Account Settings–>Set language, site, time zone
4) Yahoo! Asia
5) I also switched the time zone to Japan. I don’t know if this is necessary.
6) Log out & log back in
I had to do the forwarding switch in the new version of Yahoo
7) Re-upgrade
8) Options–>Mail Options–>Forwarding
9) The “Forward Yahoo! Mail to another email address” bullet did not work for me, but the “Access Yahoo! Mail via POP” did.
10) For GMail: Settings–>Accounts & Imports–>”Check mail using POP3″: “Add a POP3 mail account you own”.
They make this so much easier. It will fetch all of your mail, old and new. You can go a similar thing with the “Import mail and contacts” item, though it takes longer to import and the 30-day forwarding is somewhat slow/doesn’t always work.
im getting following error.
Sun, Nov 20, 2011 at 3:22 PM Error: Server is temporarily unavailable.
Server returned error “Error in RETR command: problem retrieving message.”
Somebody necessarily help to make critically articles I might state. This is the first time I frequented your website page and to this point? I amazed with the research you made to create this particular post amazing. Excellent job!
Under “Set language and time zone” I don’t see any way to change the Yahoo variant. There’s only “Language Preferences” and “Time Zone”.
Any idea?
today is Jan 2012, and I think this trick is not working any more, in the config page
“Account Settings–>Set language, site, time zone” there is no way to change to Yahoo! Asia.
It’s just a time zone and language
WHY IS THIS SITE SUDDENLY SPAMMING MY INBOX WITH OLD COMMENTS AS THOUGH THEY WERE JUST POSTED IN THE LAST HOUR??!
Sorry about this. I did not approve lots of comments for a long time and I had the change of doing it today.
